Kaiser Permanente Medical Office Assistant I in San Diego, California
Under direct supervision of an RN or provider, performs routine patient care or patient transportation functions following established policies, procedures & standards; follows Quality of Service Standards; follows Universal Precautions.Essential Functions:- Upholds KP's Policies & Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities & applicable state, federal & local laws- May perform nursing care functions such as vital signs, removal and/or application of dressings for assessment by licensed provider, shaving & skin preparation; reinforce standardized self care procedures as directed by licensed provider- Recognizes & responds to acute emergency situations following established procedures- Orients patients to system policies & practices- Provides appropriate instructions sheets based upon provider direction- Reviews instruction sheet w/ patient- Transports patients by assisting or lifting individuals onto mobile beds or wheelchairs & transports/transfers patients onto other hospital or clinic areas as directed- May assist licensed provider w/ patient examinations & treatments by positioning, restraining patients, & assisting as directed- Assures safety of patient during procedures & transport- May prepare & transport items such as medical equipment & laboratory specimens- May clean & disinfect instruments/equipment according to standardized procedure- Follows Universal Precautions- Reports incidents of failure to follow procedures to Department Administrator or designee- Maintains departmental files, performing duties such as pulling files & assembling forms prior to appointment, & filling returned diagnostic reports as directed- Charts in patient's medical records as indicated- Participates in Department Quality Assurance activities- Performs other duties as required, such as checking patient's medical records for incomplete data, relaying messages to staff personnel, & telephoning in prescriptions to pharmacies- Assume other activities & responsibilities from time to time as directed
Basic Qualifications:- Completion of a program in Medical Office Assisting with certification OR equivalent of six (6) months of experience required- Ability to give & follow oral & written instructions- Ability to work effectively with the public
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Employee will be assigned to work at any of the San Diego General, Plastic & Vascular Surgery locations and will float to support the departmental clinic needs.
Knowledge of sterile procedures, infection control , assisting with exam/minor procedures, and dressing changes.
